Bright and early on Friday morning, participants arrived and gathered around their woodturning lathes, scrollsaw tables, pyrography stations, and carving stations, eager to dive into their chosen crafts. In the midst of our woodcrafts group get-together, we were fortunate to have two exceptional individuals, Allan and Brenda, who dedicated their time and expertise yet again to guide and teach participants in the “not so naughty” corner. Each year we see their unwavering commitment to sharing their knowledge and skills in the crafts of scrollsaw work, box making, and pyrography deserves special recognition.

Allan and Brenda’s passion for their chosen crafts was evident in the meticulous attention to detail they provided during their teaching sessions. Patiently, they guided newcomers and seasoned practitioners alike, offering valuable insights, techniques, and tips to enhance everyone’s craftsmanship. Their approachable nature and willingness to answer questions fostered an environment of learning and growth, where participants felt comfortable seeking guidance and expanding their skills.

In the realm of scrollsaw work, Allan’s expertise shone through as he demonstrated the art of transforming flat pieces of wood into intricate and awe-inspiring creations. His ability to navigate intricate patterns with precision and finesse left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of learning from him. Under his tutelage, participants developed a deeper understanding of the tools, materials, and techniques required to create stunning scrollsaw projects.

Box making, taught by Brenda, unleashed participants’ creativity as they learned to craft unique and functional wooden boxes. From selecting the right wood to mastering the joinery techniques, her guidance ensured that each box was a testament to the participants’ newfound skills and creativity. Additionally, when it came time to finish them, the art of decorating wood with burn marks, Brenda’s expertise shone through as she shared her techniques for creating intricate and captivating designs. Participants were enthralled as they learned to manipulate the heat of the pyrography pen to bring life to their wooden canvases.

Let us applaud Allan and Brenda for their remarkable efforts, and let their teaching legacy continue to inspire woodcraft enthusiasts to pursue excellence in their chosen crafts. It is also important to recognize the multitude of individuals who selflessly shared their time, knowledge, and expertise during Q-Turn. Among the many dedicated individuals who enriched the event, we would like to extend our appreciation to Jim Tutin, Jan, Marilyn, and John for their invaluable contributions.
